Cartoons of 2008

2008, and we’re all emptying our shower and bath water onto the garden.

March 2008 saw a record heatwave.

One issue early in 2008 was that Whyalla’s boom didn’t seem to be reaching everybody. Small business in particular were complaining that their trade hadn’t picked up.

Having completed PROJECT MAGNET, with its promise of reducing dust in the Eastern end of the city, along comes the huge OCEAN EYRE housing development out west to bring dust from development and road building to the city.

It seemed odd to me that in the ongoing quest to fund a city art gallery, that if we already had a building (One of the TAFE blocks.) how come we still needed half a million dollars to get the project off the ground?

One of the big issues in 2008 was industrial development at Point Lowly with its threats to the Cuttlefish, tourism and recreation.

Plans were announced for a $50. million expansion of the Westlands Shopping Centre, while the Whyalla Wetlands was starved of funding.
