Rain, or the lack of it, has always been a staple of the STAN cartoon. This cartoon was published at the end of yet another long dry spell, but is remembered because it attracted a letter to the editor to remind readers that it is God and not Hughie who supplies the rain.
Whyalla has been fortunate to have a city council forward-looking enough to try to harvest the storm water.
Another STAN staple has been the River Murray from which Whyalla receives its water via a pipeline from Morgan.
Then there is the dreaded Greenhouse effect.
Heatwaves are almost as fun as rain events.
And Whyalla once had a slogan which boasted of our 301 days of sunshine every year.
Eventually the water we had pumped to us from the River Murray was filtered.
Meanwhile those pesky rains keeping falling.
Another message to Hughie perhaps?
And of course the price of water keeps rising.
