Colette Mann came to do a show in Whyalla then in an interview later complained about all the “ugly people” in town. Naturally this got a reaction.
This was high season for demolitions of Housing Trust units, which I called unbuilding applications.
The Civic Building lift was proposed.
A big issue at the time was a proposed shipbreaking yard at the site of the old shipyards. It never came to pass.
The Harvey Norman store at the top of the Plaza was proposed, although not yet started.
BHP was also starting the process of selling off the steelworks, with OneSteel to emerge the following year.
